Charlie Weston was the over 70 record holder for 7 years

I conveyed the news from Gladys Crellin on Facebook last night that Charlie Weston, the winner of what is now the Manx Telecom Parish Walk in 1989 and 1991, had a stroke on Sunday.

Only the previous day had I considered emailing him to check his date of birth because I had not included him among the age bests that I had recently compiled. Gladys told me that he was in 80 in April so it would appear that his final finish of the course in 2004 must have been the first lap by a 70 year old. Dave Fereday beat that time, aged 73 in 2011, but it would appear that Charlie was the unofficial over 70s record holder for seven years.

Finishes Name Time Year Position Age
2 David Fereday 21:21:51 2011 95 73
9 Charlie Weston 21:35:13 2004 54 70
4 Michael Gray 21:52:27 2007 94 72
4 Gordon Erskine 22:53:02 2013 167 70
2 David Fereday 23:03:26 2010 106 72
4 Michael Gray 23:15:15 2008 94 73
4 Michael Gray 23:15:17 2009 166 74
8 Derek Harrison 02:15:50 2006 163 71

He also remains the 7th fastest in the 60 to 64 age group and when he set his time in 1996 he was only the second best to a mighty performance by Brian Ashwell.

Finishes Name Time Year Position Age
2 Brian Ashwell 16:37:47 1995 1 62
9 Christopher Flint 18:09:02 2006 16 61
4 Stan Sille 18:13:08 2007 21 60
9 Gordon Corran 18:33:55 2013 30 62
9 Christopher Flint 18:53:07 2009 24 64
17 Mick Holgate 18:56:28 2005 20 62
9 Charlie Weston 19:11:42 1996 6 62
By the way, the photo I use here and on Facebook is from the launch of Dermot O'Toole's first book on the Parish Walk history.
